Fiestas, siestas, senoritas and margaritas, I think we could all use a Baja coastal holiday right about now… but half a world away, I’ll have to make do by emulating the feel with this Free People story.

I grew up in San Juan Capistrano which is situated maybe an hour and a half north of Baja so architecturally my world was filled with Spanish and Mexican themes and inspiration. We learnt and spoke Spanish at school and culturally were very much at home with the California infused Latin American lifestyle. I used to love running through the large archways that often dominated much of the town structures, including my school, and hiding behind the columns and leafy palms.

Here in Perth, the Cottesloe Civic Centre is a historical and cultural icon that takes on a Spanish Mission style and design. It was the sweeping arches that caught my attention for this piece and provided the perfect backdrop for this easy to wear free flow Free People Star Slip. Add some Santana, layered hardware, a pair of boots and the moment could pass for a Baja escape, even if only for a second.
