FASHION GIVEAWAY: What’s in a Name? Rooftop Views with Jord Watches

Jord Wood Watches Hero

When I was in grade school I struggled with my name. I now very much appreciate that Jordana isn’t as common as many but there was a time where I would have been very content as a Sally or Kate (definitely not shading any Sallys or Kates here). Having moved from the US to Australia not long before high-school, I was conscious of fitting in and as I saw it, a thick American accent, an apparently hard to say name (the most common pronunciations being Jordan-anna or jordan-na…) and a tail-end entry to junior school cliques, would not help matters. Despite my perceived hurdles, junior school was somewhat seemless, although I did end up quickly loosing my American accent and picking up an Aussie one.

I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to inquire earlier but it wasn’t until the end of high school that I thought to ask my Mom the meaning behind my name. I take pride in knowing that I was named after the feisty best friend of Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. I like to think Jordan and I share some of her more favorable traits like sporty-ness and strength of character, rather than the shallow and cynical side Fitzgerald describes.

As a child I remember being distinctly annoyed at the fact that I never had my own personalized mini license plate or pen or t-shirt, you know the ones you see in souvenir stores? So many of my friends would go away on summer vacation and come back with personalized gifts and I would have to settle with the generic “You’re A Star!” or “Best Friend” as “Jordana” was never going to be available (I knowwww, so dramatic haha 😉 ). Seeing my name has clearly been a defining factor in my life, I tend to hold anything with any resemblance to my name in the highest regard. So when Jord Watches contacted me about a giveaway post, I jumped on it. It helps that their collection of wood crafted timepieces are modern, sustainable, perfectly pairable and light weight so as to easily blend with your day to day.
